Paris

We start off with the elegant bunch in Paris who celebrate by drinking champagne or sparkling water. Just don’t confuse the 2! Everyone gathers at the Champs-Élysées to drink said champagne and ring in the new year. If you have a banging budget and prefer to take in the cheesy, yet must see Moulin Rouge go for it. Or, you can ring in the New York floating on the River Seine whilst enjoying a lovely meal. Whatever you decide to do in Paris, it will be oh so chic!

5 european cities to celebrate nye - Berlin Wall, Berlin

Berlin

During the summer I went to Berlin for a weekend and found it was such a lovely city. I also found out that it’s a big party city, so can you imagine how they will celebrate NYE? For starters, there’s a massive free party held at Brandenburg Gate. Get there early as they close off when the venue gets full. Expect fireworks, DJs and a whole lot of partying. Another option would be to purchase a Silvester ticket which gets you entry into 6 different party locations. You might find yourself partying near Checkpoint Charlie.

Prague

Such a historically beautiful city and also pretty affordable, most of the times. It’s one of the reasons it’s become really popular for stag parties. To ring in the New Year there’s the usual fireworks although the official ones don’t begin until the evening of the 1st Jan. Riverboat parties are also on offer as well as, the popular Jazz Cruise.

Venice

Although this city has been through a lot with the floods recently, it is resilient and full of love. Love is also the main theme of their NYE celebrations with the big kiss exchange at San Marco Square. If kiss strangers aren’t your thing, you and friends can do pub hopping Venetian style. Instead of beers with fish and chips, you will be eating polpette fritte washed down by wine.

5 European Cities to celebrate NYE - Puerta del Sol, Madrid

Madrid

The final city on this 5 European cities to celebrate NYE list is Madrid. Dubbed the ‘unofficial party capital’ there will be a lot of places to celebrate the start of a new decade. Before you do that though, a visit to Puerta del Sol to take part in the tradition of eating 12 grapes as the clock strikes 12. A grape for each gong of the clock for good luck in the new year. Or, you can take in a flamenco show whilst enjoying tapas.
