Hello, my wanderlust junkies! We’re at the end of February and about to leap into spring soon (I hope!). To me, this is the perfect time to look at flights and that city break. If you’re looking for inspiration, check my post on Madrid. Easter and the May Bank Holidays will soon be here. So I’ve got some tips on how to make the most out of your city break.
How to Make the Most Out of Your City Break
I’m a big fan of pre-booking shows, excursions etc, to jump the queue and not waste time. A couple of reasons besides not wasting time are, it saves money. Depending on the website you use you could save some money off that ticket to see the La Sagrada Familia. Also, paying in your own currency is a plus.
Explore Further Out First
If you’re staying a centrally located hotel or Air B&B, it is better to see the sights or do the tours that are further out first. This is especially great if you’re only there for a long weekend. Just remember to be strategic and realistic. I’m not one of these people who likes to wake at the crack of dawn to be there first. That’s why point one is important.
Read Reviews Beforehand
I know you know this but it’s worth mentioning. Read reviews with a pinch of salt. Always remember that it’s someone else’s experience and what may have happened to them, may not with you. However, if 70% of the reviews are the same then I would trust that.
Try Somewhere Off the Beaten Track
Some touristy places are really worth the hassle like, Pena Palace and some aren’t. Whilst your city break is only for a short time, that does not mean that you can’t get to know the authenticity of the place. Ask the locals at your hotel and look out for the places that are frequented by them. You might find yourself enjoying the best meal or wine of your life.
Get the 3-day Travel card
My final tip in how to make the most out of your city break is to get the 3 day metro card. In my experience most cities; Rome, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon, have some sort of 3 day travel card. This will allow you to utilise public transport smoothly and efficiently.
Those are my tips on how to make the most out of your city break. Now I’d love to read some of your tips. Share in the comments below! Oh and follow me on Instagram to see where’s next on my bucket list. You never know where I might end up 😉
Until next time, be well! x
