Hello you beautiful travel bunnies! Where are we off to and have you booked that trip yet? I did a similar post but for skincare and decided to do one for travel. Here are the 5 things I am too old for travel edition.
5 things I am too old for travel edition
Too Many Stops
I once flew back from Trinidad and my flight got delayed. The airline in the infinite wisdom decided to give me a long delay and 2 stop overs in the US before landing in the UK. Ever since then, I decided that I wasn’t going to do that unless, it was absolutely necessary. For me, unless I’m flying to New Zealand or Tanzania, I shouldn’t have multiple stops. It’s 2023 and in most cases there’s a more direct route because, time is our most precious commodity.
Following Everything on the Itinerary
I like having a plan. I even used Bard AI to create travel itineraries for me to give me ideas on what to do. If you’d like to read more about that leave me a comment below. But, I don’t follow everything nor do I get hung up on it. One of the lessons I’ve learnt travelling is that, you have to accept that things happen or don’t. It can be disappointing but, you can’t allow it to spoil the trip. Plus, following everything might let you miss out on the unexpected.
Not Using Airmiles
For me, what’s the point of having a credit card to collect airmiles if you don’t use them. We all know the economic situation globally. So why would I practically throw away money? I’m too old to waste and not utilise the miles I’ve been collecting each time I use my card. Also, everytime I fly with an airline I register to collect miles. Those couple of hundred of miles can bring a flight down from £100 to £85 and you can put the £15 towards your hotel.
Layovers that are Under 2 Hours
My friends running from gate 19 to gate 71 in a massive airport is not fun! You may think an hour is sufficient time to de-plane, go through immigration (depending on the airport), collect luggage which you maybe required to do and find your new gate. I’m too old for that because inevitably you will miss your connecting flight. I’m speaking from personal experience and it was no fun.
Not Allowing Down Time
The final point on my list is all about, la dolce far niente, which translates to, sweet doing nothing. I get the whole travelling and see everything you can however, it can become like work. You don’t actually enjoy the place you’re visiting and you can miss the true beauty of the place. It may not work for you, but it definitely works for me and I’ve made some beautiful memories. I even met some wonderful people by just chilling. You should try it some time.
