Hello, my lovely giraffes! We are officially in autumn and summer has left the building sniff sniff. As you would have gathered I am a summer baby but, we’re here to talk about things you need to know in your 30s. As I’m just a few months away from hitting 40, I thought I would share some important info that I wish I knew.
Things You Need to Know in Your 30s
First off, if you’ve just turned 30 I would like to say congratulations and welcome to the club. Secondly, you won’t feel any different just yet. For the first 3-4 years in your 30s, you probably won’t notice any major changes in your life. What you will notice is that there’s a pressure to have your life together. I’m going to let you in on a secret, no one has their ish together. Some people appear to have their life together and may even believe they have it together but, they’re winging it like the rest of humanity. No one actually knows what will work until they try it. You just need to try different things to figure out what will work for you. So relax! Enjoy the journey.
At the stroke of midnight, you don’t need to put away your cut off shorts or sparkly tops. Nope! You can wear whatever you want, however, experimenting with different styles might be useful. We don’t do ‘old’ because it’s just not what a 30-something-year-old does or is for that matter. One of the things you need to know in your 30s about dressing is that there are no rules. The only rules you need to follow include: is it comfortable? Do I like it? Will I wear it more than once?
If you didn’t know before, I’m a skincare junkie and proud of it too :). The one thing I will stress is to please take care of your skin regardless of your age. You will thank me when you’re 80! Moisturiser and retinol are your best friends when it comes to keeping skin timeless. If you need to, invest in seeing a dermatologist or skincare professional so you have personalised skincare.
There will be subtle changes to your body that you may not notice at first but, they’re there. It might be your clothes feeling a bit snug or, your body might change shape. I had both and because I didn’t pay attention to the signs, it was a shock to my system. My advice would be for you to move your body and move it a lot! Whatever form of exercise you’re into, do that! Oh, I should also mention that if you like to go out and have a few drinks, hangovers take longer to bounce back from. Something that you need to bear in mind.
These are a few things you need to know in your 30s which essentially are, don’t worry if you don’t have your ish together. Wear what you feel like wearing but experiment. Take care of your skin and body. Being in your 30s is a wonderful decade because you start to shed all the things that no longer matter. You start to focus more on what matters to you and less on what doesn’t. Enjoy this fabulous decade!
