10 More Things Every Single Over 35 Woman Needs to Do
Fashion
Fashion is one of those things that is important, whether we realise it or not. It can help you express yourself and when you’re feeling down, it can help boost your mood. You know the saying, ‘look good, feel good’ well it’s true.
What’s Your Style?
To make fashion an easy and enjoyable experience, take some time and figure out what your style is. Have a look through your closet and pick out the items you use the most and feel most comfortable in. It’ll take some time but it will be worth it and you won’t purchase duplicate pieces.
Quality Items
I’m a big fan of buying quality items especially those that you will use all the time. It’s summer and you pull out the same sandals every year, get a pair that are well made. For example, I bought a pair of Castaner espadrilles a few years ago and they have withstood my travels. Whilst they may cost a little bit more, the cost per wear is probably at £0 and you can pick up a pair in the sale.
Essential Pieces
Sticking with quality, that should also include your essential items. If you live in seasonal climates, a leather (real or faux) jacket, trench coat and winter coat are necessary. Buy what you can afford, stick to silhouettes that flatter your shape and have great fabric composition. This means try and stay away from high polyester content for your essential pieces.
Care for your Items
You want your items to last as long as possible and this means you have to look after them. Don’t dry clean if it doesn’t need to. Dry clean if it needs to be dry cleaned or hand wash it. Some silk and wool items can be washed in the washing machine so use a detergent for those types of fabrics. I bought a silk and wool liquid detergent from Eco-cover and it does an amazing job. If you’d like me to do a dedicated post on caring for your clothing items, let me know in the comments below.
Undergarments
There’s a reason they’re called foundational garments. Have you ever worn an outfit that looked off? It could be your bra and knickers that were to blame. The wrong shaped bra could make or break an outfit. T-shirt bras are great to wear under a lot of outfits where you need a smooth effect. Also, VPL’s can spoil the look of a skirt or trousers so get a few pairs that don’t cause them.
Future
This section is all about your future. Just because you’re over 35 doesn’t mean your life is over, it means that you need to prepare for the next stage of your life.
Have a Plan
One of my friends and I always talk about having a plan for our time otherwise, people will spend it for you. Same rule applies to your future. I’m not saying to make an entire plan down to the last moment but, instead have an idea of what you want out of your life. How will you accomplish it? Be flexible and don’t get bogged down by the minutia.
Money, Money, Money
Understanding money and investments isn’t something that most of us would have learnt about whilst growing. Now is the time to learn about it and make friends with money. You don’t need to become a stock trader, unless you find that you enjoy it, but learn something about it. Having your money in a simple savings account isn’t going to cut it. Learn about ISA’s, stocks and shares and pensions.
Pensions
Speaking of pensions, please have one. Even if you didn’t have one before this second, start one! Having a pension is like wearing spf, you do it now and it pays off in the future. Most companies in the UK should be providing you with a pension. If you can contribute to it then please do. You don’t want to be struggling financially at age 75.
Have A Passion
Your passion doesn’t have to be your job but it could be the thing that your job funds. It could also be the thing that you’d like to become your job. I found a love for photography through blogging and am working towards building that business. It fills me with so much joy even when I tired and can’t feel my legs from standing up, I love it!
Keep Learning
It doesn’t matter how old you are, keep learning. We don’t know everything and thank goodness for that! If we knew everything how boring would it be to be alive. Find something that interests you and learn more on the topic. For instance, I recently found out that the earth spinning on its axis is slowing down. It actually speeds up and scientists have to adjust time but recently it started to slow down. Keep learning!
Don’t Go Back
My final piece of advice is, don’t go back to the thing/job/person that once broke you. You picked yourself up and not only survived but thrived. You’ll be doing yourself a disservice if you were to return to what once broke you. You present and future needs you as healthy and whole as possible.
