Happy New Year and welcome to 2017! So Christmas and the new year celebrations are over. Now you’re in a slump because last week it was amazing and now everything is a bit blah! Lets face it you’re suffering from post holiday blues. To help you (and me) get through this i have a few tips/reminders of how to start 2017 and thrive.
How to Start 2017
1. Goal planning
Having goals is great but planning what your goals is even better. You see planning helps you to focus your mind and emotions on what you’re really going for and why. It makes absolutely no sense to have a goal and you don’t know why you’re working your butt off to achieve. For example, losing weight is a huge thing at the beginning of the year and everyone hits the gym and by February it fizzles out. First off, Jan is cold so maybe it’ll be better to start the focus on what you’re eating. Or you don’t like the gym and would prefer a dance class or to workout at home. There’s a plethora of YouTube videos, which are free and really helpful. I’m a big fan of Fitness Blender and this guy.
Tip: If you need help with goal setting I created a goal setting worksheet. You can download it here
2. Plan your next holiday
I do this regardless of the time of year or financial situation because it keeps me sane! For instance, Easter is coming up and if you book 4 days on either side of the holiday, you could potentially have a little over 2 weeks off. That’s enough time to travel around Italy or, if you’re looking for perpetual sunshine check out Anitgua.
3. Declutter
Yes that cupboard that you keep meaning to clear out, this is the perfect time of year to do it. Firstly, you get to go through what you actually use verses what you think you should or would in the future. If you haven’t used it in a year, or forgot you had it then chances it you won’t miss it if you get rid of it for good. Think of it this way, you’ll create space, new life and energy in your home. Also, donating increases the feel good factor because you donating that extra coat means someone is warm.
4. Challenge yourself
Another way to start 2017 is by challenging yourself. It’s different from goal setting because you’re basically in competition with yourself. I did a penny challenge last year to help me save for a few luxury/vintage pieces and I was inspired to do it again this year but up the ante. You could also challenge yourself to take that class you’ve always wanted to take but secretly believe you won’t be good at. Tell the voice to shut up and sign up 🙂
5. Focus on you
I’m not going to do the whole new year new you ish. What I will say is this…life is flipping short as evidenced by 2016’s purge. So whilst the festive season is over and reality is either settling in or already has, you can take the true meaning of the season with you throughout the year. By that I mean, do what makes your heart sing. If you don’t know what that is, ask yourself. Resist the urge to throw yourself at the altar of self sacrifice, it does more harm than good.
