Tips on how to love yourself

self love on www.majeang.com, Work in progress

Hello lovelies it’s the start of another week filled with possibilities. I thought I would start looking at Mondays as a day that doesn’t fill me with dread, after it’s not its fault 🙂

So as you can tell from the title, today’s topic is on self-love and if you’ve been around long enough, you would have probably heard the mantra about self-love. You know the important stuff they don’t teach you about life whilst you’re young and impressionable. Anyways, I thought I would share with you a few things I learnt about self-love (so far) and it doesn’t involve shoes (sadly!). Here we go….

Needs – yup we all have needs, the basic foundation to all our wants and desires. On a physical level think about food, clothing and shelter. On the emotional level think compassion, love and friendship. Some of us have forgotten that these basic emotional needs are vital and important to our well-being. We think about the other person(s) first and we’re left empty, like a beggar on the street. Not a pretty picture but sadly it happens.

Now that you have recognised your needs, it’s time to put them back in the picture and at the front of your mind. It isn’t selfish to put yourself first, it’s actually self-full and paradoxically you are able to give more, because you have more! Go figure!

This dear friends is my Achilles heel and I am working on this; saying no! I can hear the chorus of Amen with this one. Something I recently learned from Danielle La Porte (google her she’s awesome!), you have to say no so you can say yes. Let me explain. When you say no to the things that drain you and leave you empty, space has been created for you to say yes! Yes I will take that dream job! Yes I will accept that pay raise. Or no I won’t put up with your cheating because yes I am worth more! Get it? Good! 🙂

Finally, watch your language! An odd one but if you were to record a lot of your self-talk I’m pretty sure you would be appalled at what you tell yourself on a regular basis. It’s like a record playing in the background that actually influences a lot of your decisions in life. Next time you have 10 mins spare, pay attention to the thoughts running through your mind and you will know if your language is based on self-love or criticism.

There are various aspects on self-love and I could probably do an entire series on it! Liked what you’ve read? I would love to know and let me know, how do you show yourself love?

As always thank you for reading, commenting and sharing.

Until next time, be well

x
