My Top 6 Money Saving Tips…to Travel More

my top 6 money saving tips - majeang.com

Hello my travel bunnies! How have you been? It’s practically the end of August and Almost the end of summer (cue my tears). That doesn’t mean travel ends. No, it actually means travel picks up now that the summer rush is coming to an end. So I’m sharing my top 6 money saving tips so you can travel more!

My Top 6 Money Saving Tips

Budget for Travel

One of my top money saving tips is to simply budget for it. I know, I know it seems so simple and it can be. I put aside a certain percentage of income each month towards a travel fund. So for my birthday to Marrakech this year, I started saving for it the previous year. This allowed me to pay for flights when I found a deal in the Boxing Day sales. This strategy works great for those special celebrations like a mile stone birthday or, just because.

Make Your Credit Card Work Harder

I’ve waxed lyrical about this before (here). Get yourself a credit card that works harder for you whether, it’s cash back on purchases or, my favourite, avios points. With the points you can use them against flights or to upgrade flights or hotels. I use BA American Express but there are others such as, Virgin Atlantic Reward or, Amex Nectar where you convert nectar points to avios points. It’s worked well for me especially when booking long haul flights back to Trinidad and Tobago. Suddenly that £700 flight is closer to £500. Remember to only spend what you can afford to pay back, it is a credit card after all!

Check Your Account Regularly

Another simple but overlookedway to save money is to check your account regularly. Have you had those months where you think , oh I’ve got x amount in my account but your forgot about that subscription renewal? Also, with how high tech unethical hackers have become, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your account so you notice any descrepencies as soon as it happens.

Use Cash Back Websites

I am a fan of using cash back websites and letting it build over time before withdrawing and sticking it into my travel savings fund. Also, you can get cash back on flights and hotels too! Another way to save on your travel. I currently use TopCashback.com where I use the browser extension as well as the app. Another website is Quidco that offers a free membership or £1 a month for boosted membership.

Get Creative with Styling

This tip I love because I enjoy fashion and reducing the amount of clothes I purchase helps me to be creative. I use pinterest, fashion influencers, websites for brands or simply looking at people on the street for inspiration. I don’t do exact copy, unless I have the same things in my closet, but I do my own version of it. It’s made me feel excited about getting dressed and taking more risks. It save me money, allows me to be creative and feel good. It’s a win win situation!

Look at Your Skincare

If you’ve read my blog before then you would know that I’m also a skincare junkie, proudly! 🙂 As much as I love a trying a new skincare product, it isn’t always good for my bank account or my skin. What I’ve done is looked at what works and focused on the goals for my skin. I want to have less redness on my face, so I use azelaic acid from The Inkeylist. I focus more on the ingredients and sometimes expensive products do work better but not always. Do you have any skincare dupes? Share in the comments below.
