6 Things I Do to Improve My Health and Fitness

Hello! Hello beautiful people! It’s been a minute but I’m back! How have you been? I hope life has been treating you kindly. In today’s post I’m sharing the 6 things I do to improve my health and fitness. One of the things I have been focusing on, aside from travel, is my health and fitness. We only get one body and taking care of it is a priority.

6 Things I Do to Improve my Health and Fitness

Lifting Weights

We all know the importance of movement and I’m no stranger to it. I was doing pilates years before it became the craze it is. Does anyone remember Winsor Pilates? Iykyk. Anyways, as a woman in her mid-forties lifting weights is important. Lifting weigths helps increase muscle strength, bone density, weight management, boosted well-being and more! Also, lifting weights has made me feel strong physically and mentally. The thing I keep in mind is if I look after body now, I will reap the benefits now and later. Do you lift weights? Let me know in the comments below.

Walk More

Sticking with movement, this is equally easy and challenging. Easy because it’s free and can be done whenever or wherever once it’s safe to do so. Challenging because sometimes I can’t be bothered and the weather doesn’t always play ball. I’m an island girl and walking when it’s cold or raining isn’t my jam. Some days I hit my target and other days, I barely cross 2k steps however I don’t beat myself up about it.

Restful Sleep

This is something that I still struggle with as insomnia likes to pop up every now and then. So instead of getting frustrated, because it doesn’t help, I focus on what I can manage. Taking magnesium glycinate and ashwagandha help me to relax. Also, I started to do yin yoga at night which is a much slower type of yoga because you have to hold the poses a lot longer and beathe deeper. I don’t always get the restful sleep but it’s a lot more than before.

Cold Showers

I’m not a fan of the cold but here I am willingly having a cold shower. But hear me out! Firstly, it’s only 20 seconds and not everyday. Secondly, there are some benefits which make it worthwhile such as, improved circulation, reduced inflammation and muscle pain. As someone who is lifting weights regularly this has been helpful when I have DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). The mental clarity is also something that I’ve noticed which is a plus. So will you be trying cold showers or swimming anytime soon? Or is it a hell no!?

Having More Protein

Whether you are a meat eater or not, consuming protein at every meal is beneficial. It supports muscle growth and repair, also, you feel fuller for longer. This is helpful for weight management and boosts absorption of calcium. Another benefit is that it can stabilise your blood sugar levels and improves your hairs, skin and nails. Plus, there are multiple delicious recipes you can try.

Habit Stacking

I’ve spoken about this and all the benefits before here, but this tip really helps me to do all the above and more. For example, when it comes to my nighttime routine I start with double cleansing my face which leads to brushing my teeth and so on. Then I journal whilst listening to a subliminal audio from Vibe and Flow, take my supplements and do a yin yoga session. So each little step comes together to form a routine that doesn’t feel overwhelming.

These are the 6 things I do to improve my health and fitness. What about you? What are you doing to improve your health? Let me know in the comments below and get the conversation started.

As always thank you commenting and reading. Until next time, be well!x
