Things to do When Travelling Over 30
What Will You Do With Your House?
One of the things to consider is your property when travelling. When you think about a gap year, usually they are in college as a student. They don’t need to worry about their house as they normally live with their parents or in student accommodation. There are a few different things you can do. You could get someone in the family to housesit to look after your plants and pets if you have any. If you have older children still at home you can give them the responsibility to look after the house. This can give you insight into what it would be like if they moved out. You could also leave it vacant. Or, you can also look at something like AirBnB where you can temporarily let it out. This will be a great way to earn some money whilst travelling. If you do that you may want to make sure any valuables are locked away or in storage.
How Are You Travelling?
Another thing to consider is how you are travelling and making sure that everything is prepared and booked beforehand. If you are using transport like planes and trains you will want to ensure you’re booked and have your tickets. You always want to make sure you have a bit of extra time between them in case of any delays. You may want to travel more privately and comfortably like a caravan. Caravans are a great option as you have your home comforts and can drive around whenever and wherever you want. You will want to make sure you have caravan insurance. Check out somewhere like one sure to be fully covered and protected.
What Will Happen With Your Career?
Although travelling is something a lot of people want to do, it isn’t something a lot of people can afford. At least until they are in a full-time job where they are earning good money. But then travelling may potentially jeopardise the job. It is worth having a chat with your HR department. Ask about extended unpaid leave, like a sabbatical, this will ensure you have a job to come back to. This means you can take some leave to travel and come back to a job. You could also do short travelling trips on the weekend. You could even take a year off if you are in between jobs or looking for a career change.
These are the things to do when travelling over 30. The reality is travelling can be adapted and suited for everyone and for any situation. It can be adjusted to different budgets and timescales. Now all you need to decide where you are going to travel to. Where will you go? Let me know in the comments below.
