Hello travel junkies! How are you and most importantly, where have you travelled to? Today’s post is about the world’s most beautiful train ride in Norway.

The World’s Most Beautiful Train Ride in Norway

A few years ago, I was shown a video of this train ride going through the Norwegian fjords. Needless to say, I tucked it away in the back of my mind until I could make it happen. January 2020 was when it happened and it was worth the wait and cold!

The Journey

I flew into Bergen from London and to say it was cold, was an understatement. Nevertheless, Bergen is a pretty little city where public transport is easy and affordable to navigate. It’s also where I would begin my journey to experience the world’s most beautiful train ride in Norway.

You could also do this journey from Oslo just expect to spend a night along the way.

I started off at Bergen station, stopped off in Voss to catch a bus to take me to the boat. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t playing ball for a boat ride and we were taken to Flam directly. The journey on the bus was incredibly scenic and you couldn’t help but be in awe of nature during winter.

Flam Railway

Arriving in Flam it was covered in snow and I hunkered down in the lone bakery for some hot chocolate and cake. People watching and browsing through the gift shop passed the time until it was time for my train.

Finally, it was time to board the train. The inside gave me Ms Marple vibes and that era.

Of course I was incredibly happy and excited to get the show on the road. What I saw, took my breath away and it wasn’t because I was cold.

How to Book

If you would like to do this trip (which I highly recommend) then here’s how I booked it.

You can’t get one ticket, it’s a ticket for each stop which can be a ballache. To simplify things I booked through Fjord Tours for one price. When the boat was cancelled I was given a refund for that ticket.

If you’re thinking about flights, I flew with Norwegian Airlines which was a smooth flight. Side note, when NA puts up their gate please go! They don’t stick with their flight times.

Would you ever take the world’s most beautiful train ride in Norway? Let me know in the comments. Oh and I did a YouTube video to show you the journey. Hope you enjoy!
