Hello, my travel giraffes. Welcome back to the blog if you’ve subscribed. If you’re new here, welcome to my little piece of the interwebs. On Thursdays I do a travel related post so you can be insipired to book that trip of a lifetime! Today’s post are the important things to remember when booking accommodation. It can be a minefield but I’m here to help you with that.

Important Things to Remember when Booking Accommodation

Location

This might seem pretty obvious but you would be so surprised at how overlooked it is. When you’re looking to book your hotel or Air BnB, you need to think about what you want to accomplish from your trip. Is it a weekend city break so you can see the sights? Or, you’re there for a week and hired a car? You could also be there just for a concert. Look at the distance from where you are to what you’re interested in seeing. Also, check out how easy it is to get from point A to point B. When you’re short on time, location matters.

Meals

For some people this is irrelevant but for me and maybe you, this is important. I try to book places that provide breakfast with the room. It means that I don’t have to think too much about where I’m going to eat in the morning. I get hangry and it really ain’t cute! Even if the breakfast is pastry based, it will fill a hole in an empty tummy until I find somewhere suitable. Also, if they serve a really great breakfast, you can eat as late as possible, skip lunch and have a massive dinner! Saving you some coins for those souvenirs.

Cleanliness and Noise

Next up on my list of important things to remember when booking accommodation is, hygiene and noise. There’s nothing worse than getting somewhere to realise it’s dirty, dusty and noisy. Read the reviews and if there’s a recurring theme, find another! People will complain about the most ridiculous things but, if 10 visitors mention the noise levels please believe them.

Extras

Finally on this list of important things to remember when booking accommodation is to check any extras. European countries add on a city tax that you pay at the hotel. Look at the fine print for it. Fees can range from €0.50 (44p) to €5 (£4.40). Or, if you need a transfer to and from the airport, it is usually extra. Pay attention and don’t get caught out.

Those are my important things to remember when booking accommodation. I’d love to know what yours are? Let me know in the comments below.
