How to Get Glowy Skin in Winter

how to get glowy skin in winter

We all want glowy skin all year round and there ain’t no shame in that. The challenge with getting said glowy skin in winter is well, it’s winter.

Wind, rain, snow, central heating and it being cold all the bloody time it’s no wonder your glow leaves the building. But, there’s hope for you to obtain that glow despite the what nature tries to do. Here are my tips on how to get glowy skin in winter.

How to Get Glowy Skin in Winter

Wash your face

You need to wash your face properly. I’m not talking about the quick 10 seconds you slather some cleanser on your face. You’ve got to actually wash your face for a bit longer, 60 seconds to be precise. I read a tweet by @LABeauty who said washing your face for 60 seconds is the way to go. She explained that it helps to deep clean your skin because you tend not to miss the missable areas.

Exfoliate

Next, we need to get rid of the dead skin because it’s dead! You can’t create a glow if your skin is covered in dry, dead cells. If that doesn’t sound pretty, its because it doesn’t! I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again; exfoliate! Please Exfoliate! Exfoliate!

You can go the route of manually exfoliating your skin and actually use a gentle scrub with granules in them. Alternatively, you can use chemical exfoliation with acids which is my favourite way of getting that glow. There are a few types of acids: glycolic, lactic, salicylic and mandelic acids. These acids are great for gently exfoliating your skin without creating micro tears that can sometimes happen with manual exfoliating.

Moisturise

Now that you’ve removed the dead skin, it’s time to moisturise. I don’t care what age you are, what skin type you have, you need to moisturise. Moisturiser is your bff. There are different formulations of moisturisers: gel like this one I’m using from Nars, cream, lotion and even a gel-cream mixture. Alternatively, you can use an oil or a mixture of oils at night time. I swear by rosehip oil in case you’re wondering.

Consistency

My final tip is to be consistent with the products you use and how often you use them. You can’t expect to see miracle transformations in 2 days..only Jesus has that kind of skills. Keep on it unless of course you’re having a bad reaction or, have been advised to stop using a product. Please do your research and if you’re not sure where to start, check on Caroline Hirons who is like skincare royalty in my book.

Until next time, be well! x
