Reality of Self-Care

Saying No

I’ve written about this before, here, and so I will say it again. Saying no creates space to say yes to yourself. You cannot look after other people and not look after yourself. This can take look like many things including, cancelling dinner because you’re exhausted. Or it could be you saying no to a relationship of any kind that is only one-sided.

Being Brave

Self-care is about being brave because you have to take a risk. You say no more often. The risk is others saying that you’re selfish when you no longer do what they want you to do. You have to be brave because you need to be honest with yourself. Honesty isn’t always gentle because oftentimes you have to be truthful. The truth does not care about your feelings or the feelings of others. It just is and that takes being brave to speak it and live it. Self-care is being brave and booking that appointment to see the GP.

Introspection and Reflection

The reality of self-care requires you to take the time to look inwards and ask yourself the tough questions. Are you happy in your chosen career? Friendships? Relationship? What do you actually want out of life? What can you give back to life? How are you going to live your truth? How do you want to live your life and what are you willing to give up to have it?

Changing Old Patterns

The truth is, self-care is truly about you recognising the old patterns that no longer serve you. Then, taking the necessary steps to do something different, whether that be changing up your routine by adding arguably the most famous profile of terpenes into your life to help promote sleep and relaxation, taking up a new hobby, or simply just making time during the day for you and your wellbeing. Self-care is about cleaning house, figuratively, mentally, spiritually and physically speaking.

The reality of self-care and what that means for you goes beyond the facials and massages. They’re absolutely useful tips but completely useless if your insides are in turmoil.

Tell me what does self-care really mean to you? What does that look like? Let’s discuss in the comments below.
