Happy New Year my travel giraffes! We have begun 2020, the start of a new decade. I’m not into this new year, new you but I am into creating goals and doing thing that serve me instead of things that don’t. I’m also big into doing your holiday, your way.

Nothing worse than going on holiday and not enjoying it. Probably a reason I’m a big advocate of solo travelling :). Anyway, here are some tips on crafting your holiday your way.

Your Holiday Your Way

What better way to celebrate a new decade than to commit to exploring more of the world we live in. It goes without saying that travel not only enriches the brain but the soul too. Discovering new places, people and cultures are good for everyone, and in this day and age, it can be tailored to fit almost any budget. Whether you want to go all out and travel in luxury or make your way on a shoestring budget, the choice is entirely up to you.

Trips and Tours

Booking a trip or a tour before you leave is a great way to be able to see the country you are visiting in a safe way with a knowledgeable guide. Whether you choose to go on a private tour or head out on a group tour, you can find package deals no matter where you are visiting. If you are visiting Asia, Southeast Asia tours can be booked before you arrive and help you explore more of the country easier.

After all, with so many amazing things to visit across the globe, it would be a shame not to see as much of it as you can during your trip.

Live Like A Local

To get a more authentic experience, why not forgo booking a large chain hotel or resort! Look for local deals or Airbnb properties to help you explore the region as you would if you lived there. Search for places that are tourist-friendly and look at how you can make your visit as fulfilling as possible. Use public transport, visit local markets, and eat where the locals eat.

Stay off the Beaten Track

These days, with the rise of social media, many tourist hotspots are becoming overcrowded and, in some places, disappointing as many people clamor to get the best shots to share with friends, family, and strangers online. This could lead to huge queues and a less than satisfactory experience. Instead, ask around for some hidden gems to visit during your trip. Especially if you want to stay away from the tourist traps.

Ask the locals or staff where you are staying. If you are at a resort or hotel, ask at reception for the best places to visit to get a real authentic experience. They will know about the best places to visit and eat.

The most important thing to remember, though, is to enjoy it. After all, it is your holiday, and you shouldn’t do anything you don’t want to or that you won’t enjoy. Allow yourself time to relax amongst all the exploring and remember to stay present to take in and appreciate the sights around you fully.
