The True Beauty of Travel

There are plenty of people out there who will tell you that you need to go travelling. Often, these kinds of people can be, to put it charitably, a little bit annoying. They’re the kinds of people who always seem to be jetting off to somewhere new and you can’t really shake the feeling that they’re looking down on you for not travelling as much as they do. These kinds of people can often end up putting you off travelling more than anything else. However, if you let that happen then you really are missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures. With that in mind, instead of the typical shallow reasons of why you should try and see the world, here are some things that can really help you get to the heart of why travelling is such an amazing experience. This is the true beauty of travel.

The True Beauty of Travel

It opens your mind

When people talk about opening your mind, it often sounds kind of spiritual and vague but the truth is that travel opens your mind in a very concrete and literal way. Most of us spend our lives in a single context and that colours the way that we see the world, not to mention all of the people and things in it. By getting out into the world and seeing just how different things can be, it’s nearly impossible to remain in that kind of closed minded state. Sure, you’ll probably always feel like the way things are done where you’re from are the “normal” ways of doing things, but getting out into the world can help to teach you that your version of “normal” is just one of the millions out there.

It connects you with different people

Of course, if you really want to get to know the way that different places function around the world. The best thing to do is to talk to the people who live there. One of the beautiful things about travel is that it exposes you to plenty of people that you would never come into contact with otherwise. If you spend all of your time in one place then there’s a limit to the kinds of people you can meet. However, getting out into the world means that you could be meeting new people and making new friends all of the time. Not only does this mean that you’ll end up learning about other cultures and discovering the beauty in them. You will probably end up starting some amazing relationships that will stick with you for the rest of your life. Connecting with others, wouldn’t you say that’s the true beauty of travel?

It helps you get to know yourself

One of the worst things about spending your entire life in one place is that it can be hard to separate your identity from where you live. Everything you do and everything you are is coloured by your experiences. Plus the different versions of yourself you’ve been through the years. If you really want to find a way to understand who you are with all of that baggage removed, travelling is the perfect solution. Heading out into the world with nothing but the shirt on your back means you have no choice. You have to figure out who you really are and that’s kind of incredibly valuable. It’s an experience that you will be able to carry with you forever.

You might find a place to call home

Of course, if you’re traveling to new places, then there’s a chance that you might just find the perfect one. The perfect place that makes you think “yeah, I could settle down here”. Whether it’s the people, the climate, the culture, or any combination of factors. You start off taking a vacation and suddenly you’re looking up properties for rent in Singapore. Sure, moving to another country is a huge decision but if you find somewhere that makes you feel like you’re truly at home, then why not try a change of scenery for a while

Of course, you may well find that you’re just not the kind of person who really loves to travel. Maybe you prefer your home comforts, maybe familiar surroundings help you feel relaxed and happy. And the important thing to remember is that that’s totally okay! There’s nothing wrong with not being the kind of person who wants to jet off to new places. However, don’t let your preconceptions about travel stop you from at least trying it. Otherwise you could well end up missing out on the true beauty of travel and that would be a shame.
