Visiting Gangaramaya Temple, Sri Lanka

Why hello beautiful how are you coping with life? It’s interesting how times have changed and we’re adjusting to the new normal. So on with today’s post, I am re-sharing my visit to Gangaramaya Temple in Sri Lanka. I went to Sri Lanka in 2015, during one of the most difficult times in my life. It was here my love for travel was re-ignited.

Gangaramaya Temple

The great thing about visiting a place where you have friends who live there is that they know some really cool and interesting places to go. So when my friend suggested the Gangaramaya Temple; a landmark in Colombo that has been in existence for over 120 years.

There were beautiful statues everywhere with a mixture of Sri Lankan, Indian and some Chinese statues seen everywhere.

Repairs were being done to the oldest part of the temple, however what was visible took my breath away….

It reminded me of the Lara Croft or Indiana Jones movies, where they discover a hidden temple with amazing statues. The only difference was this was real and I was standing there!

Oh did I also mention that there’s a tree, that many view as sacred, growing in the middle of the temple? Oh and it’s not any little tree, it’s huuuuge with a statue built to encase it of sorts.

Sri Lanka was busy, noisy, hot, spicy, beautiful, unusual and fun all mixed into one. I look back at these pictures and consider myself truly fortunate to have visited. There were some similarities between my culture and theirs but also a lot of differences. I have noticed throughout my travels that there’s always some similarity. Isn’t that interesting?

Comment below if you have visited this temple before or Sri Lanka. What were your thoughts?

Thanks for reading until next time
