Hello gorgeous people! How are you all today?
Today’s post is the second installment of my autumn winter series and today’s theme is, all about your mood.
A lot of people find it challenging, myself included, in making that switch from the Summer season to this one. It can be especially difficult for those that suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder or have mild depression or a mental illness. Don’t get me wrong, autumn winter can be great too, especially when you think about all the seasonal colours, clothing, over the knee boots and copious amounts of hot chocolates and dare I say it…the Christmas holidays. But there’s also grey skies for a lot longer, dark mornings and bitterly cold days.
So here are a few of my tips in dealing with this.
- Go outside
Yes I know it is cold and may even be raining but, you need to go outdoors. I can’t tell you the number of weekends I spent indoors and I felt worse than the days I went out. Even if it’s for an hour, go out. Go to the park or walk to your high street for your favourite drink or just to window shop. Be in the light as much as possible. Please go outside!
- Find your joy
This is something that I tend to ask people I interview and in my former life as a Counsellor, I asked new clients, what makes your heart sing? Find the thing that fills you with joy and if you don’t have that something, then what about the things that make you feel good. Go do that and often.
I’m not referring to Christmas, but if it’s something you celebrate great! What I am saying is find things in your life to celebrate. You passed a test…well done! Acknowledge it and let it seep into your being like liquid gold until you’re glowing like a Charlotte Tilbury highlighter on the outside. You get the picture :).
- Plan stuff
When you have something to look forward to life becomes more palatable especially during the colder months. It could be going to see that latest movie with the hot actor or actress you like. Or just having a day where you and your friends eat junk, play games and talk into the wee hours of the morning. Little things matter and add up to help you feeling good.
This is such an important topic that it will be dealt with in a separate post so keep a look out for that. However, get your body moving and no you don’t need a gym membership. I work out at least twice a week before work with Fitness Blender. It isn’t easy but it gets your heart pumping and helps to release those endorphins which will help to improve your mood.
- Take it easy
Finally, remember to breathe and ease up on yourself. Light candles, play your favourite music, have a soak in the tub. Just relax.
If you notice that you’re having a really hard time during the colder months, then speak to your GP, just don’t suffer in silence.
