Being Single in Your 30’s

Why hello there beautiful, welcome back or if you’re new here welcome! Today’s post is about something I’ve discussed with my girlfriends before and it’s being single in your 30’s. When your 30’s hit, there seems to be this sense that you’re ‘supposed’ to be in some kind of committed relationship. It starts off with the subtle or not so subtle hints from the grandparents or parents, enquiring about your love life. It can get frustrating, annoying and sometimes painful so I thought I would share with you 5 reasons why being single in your 30’s is not a ‘bad’ thing.

Knowing what you want

I’ve found that as I’ve gotten older, I am now more aware of what I want and what I don’t want. When you’re younger, you tend to follow the crowd or always go along with what your SO (significant other) wants. In this phase of your life there’s more sureity and you feel confident (see next point) to vocalise that.

Confident

I may not be the most confident person in the world however, I have noticed that I am more confident in my 30’s than I was in my 20’s. For example, I think nothing of going to a restaurant on my own now, whereas in my early days that terrified me. The hang ups you have in your 20’s or even as a teenager seem to fade away and you wonder what they were all about.

Decisions

You get to make all the decisions about your life. From the colour you’d like to paint the walls to which type of mortgage you sign up for. Whilst it can be a little scary to be the sole decision maker, it means that you are the captain of your ship.

Adventure

If like me you thrive on travel and wanderlust run through your veins like red blood cells, there would be nothing worse than being with someone who isn’t. Or likes to put restrictions on your wanderlusting. If you decide on Wednesday that a long weekend in Amsterdam is in order then that’s what you’ll do.

Care Less

You get to choose which guy or girl you date and how many, without feeling guilty. That’s where the confidence also shines, because you care less about what others think. You make choices based upon your needs, wants and desires which really is what we ALL strive for.

I’d love to hear from you, what do you think about being single in your 30’s? Is it a ‘bad’ thing? Or are you single in your 30’s, how do you deal with the opinions?
